Seville Day 3

The biking was fun the previous day but it also wore me out! After another light breakfast, wandered over to the Catedral de Santa María de la Sede. According to my Lonely Planet Spain book, this is the largest church of its kind. Given the amount of detail and care given to these Catholic churches makes me think the Church was pretty wealthy in its day. Either that or there were alot of Spaniards with little to do in those times. The workmanship is impressive. It is rumored that the tomb in this cathedral belonged to Christopher Columbus. There is a debate whether or not the body inside is truly Christopher Columbus but I will choose to believe it is so.

The cathedral's tower is known as the Giralda. It was cool to be able to walk up and see the city views from the top.

Afterwards, walked over to Alcazar which is a Spanish palace. The digs here are especially nice, good to be royalty!

Due to the siestas in the afternoon, dinner time doesn't start until 8 pm. After romping around the Cathedral, wandered back to the hotel to enjoy some pool time. Unfortunately, it ws not heated. I spent most of the time looking at the pool rather than swimming in it. Since the suana facilities looked nice, I did venture into the cold waters to quickly run to the sauna! :)

Waiting for dinner time, the idea of seeing a flamenco dancing popped up. After looking around, went to Vineria San Telmo based on the hotel's recommendation. It also rated on TripAdvisor as number 1 restaurant in Seville. The restaurant was not easy to find amongst all the other restaurants on this block. Preserverance won out and the restaurant was found. Even better that they were willing to take the group as a walk-in! It was an excellent recommendation from the hotel. Service was good and food was delicious. I will add that the flan in Spain is not the flan I'm used to in the States. Stickier and sweeter.

Afterwards, walked over to the La Carboneria at C/ Levies 18, 41004 Seville, Spain (Casco Antiguo). In reading the description and listening to recommendations, I was not told that it was not a dancing bar. It was a museum that would be talking about flamenco dancing with a 15 minute demonstration at the end. If you get the chance, pay the entrance fee and see the full fledge version. I don't understand spanish well enough to listen to a history lesson about dancing.

Since the flamenco exhibition was a bust, wandered over to Eme Catedral Hotel. The waitress at the Hotel Alfonso XIII recommended the rooftop bar as a nice place to chill. I was guzzling down mojitos like it was water. :) I will say that the folks in Spain do know how to make sangria and mojitos well.

I'm back again for a conference. Flew out on United Airlines and was able to snag a first class seat on the way out. Luckily, the Hilton New Orleans St. Charles Avenue was able to accommodate an early check-in. The room was just the same as last time. They are renovating the executive lounge which made the perk inaccessible. I was given breakfast coupons for Luke in exchange. I tried the Southern Breakfast sans meat. I found the biscuit slightly salty but I'm prone to being salt sensitive. Not a good thing when it comes to Southern cooking. For lunch, went out to Ruby Slipper Café and ordered the Catfish St. Peter and a double Bellini. The meal was tasty and the service was quick and friendly. Did some antique and second hand clothing shopping before getting dessert at Sucre . The dessert shop sells gelato, baked goods, and chocolate. Salt Lake and Park City

Flew to Salt Lake City Airport for the holiday weekend on United . No new snow systems so I was not in a rush to get on the mountain and opted to bounce around the city before heading up to Park City. Although I could have opted for a cheaper rental, I stuck with the Toyota Tacoma from Avis . Lodging After landing, I checked into the Fairfield Inn & Suites Salt Lake City South . Normally, not a leisure destination but I thought it would be a good location to meet with friends who live south of the city. They ended up being unavailable that day and my companion's former colleagues weren't available (headquarters was just another 10 minutes south).  The next day, I checked into the Doubletree Park City - The Yarrow . Originally, the weekend was really expensive due to the holidays but the prices did drop to under $200 when I was checking in. Park City

I joined family to a snowboard trip to Park City and hopped onto a Delta flight to get into Salt Lake City International Airport . As mentioned in prior posts, the Delta gates are in the best locations in the airport. Despite that, I still had to lug my snowboard bag across a really long way (in my opinion).  I had a rental with Hertz last minute. There are close check in gates from the car rental parking garage and the airport front counters; however, the timing of my flights were outside their hours and so I was stuck lugging 70 lbs to the regular counter. I was really sad about it as I walked past the empty counters. Delta fail. My family has a timeshare with Club Wyndham Park Ciry  and they booked a three bedroom apartment. Even though we weren’t an 8 person group, it was nice to have the space because of all the snowboard gear.
