Tokyo

Anyone up for a mileage run? I was up for going to Tokyo for a day. Grabbed a crazy cheap deal and went over to Tokyo on United Airlines. Equal time flying as being on ground. On the outbound flight, I was given a free upgrade to business class. Being totally stoked, I didn't sleep like I was supposed to and was up most of the flight watching movies and snacking.

Upon arrival, hopped onto the next outbound train to Tokyo to check in to the Conrad Tokyo. Catching the end of happy hour at the lounge, I was able to get a very nice sampler dish provided by the Chinese restaurant inside the Conrad. Overall, I enjoyed my stay even though it has been about eight years since I last stayed at this location. One note, the rooms with the bay view is smaller than the city view. I guess you have to give up on something to get a view.

I was very tired with no sleep on the plane and barely had the energy to walk to the plaza downstairs for the sushi dinner at one of the restaurants that was still open. It was a quick meal before I turned in for the night.

The next morning had a lovely breakfast in the lounge. I like the breakfast options better than the evening cocktail despite the free alcohol. The staff surprised me with a birthday cake as well. Between the free business class and very nice cake, it was a good 24 hour trip to Tokyo!

It was a drizzly kind of day in Tokyo and needing to get back to the airport in the afternoon, limited my roaming of Tokyo. I stuck with walking around the Ginza area looking for Kyoto momentous for friends. Found a Kyoto items store and was able to see some of Ginza as well. Even stopped at a couple of chocolate shops and pastry shops on the way back to the hotel. Most of the Japanese dessert shops focused on the European influence and importation if it isn't mochi based.

On the return flight, I was looking forward to going to the ANA lounge to get some karaage. To my disappointment, it was not on the menu! Made do with the ramen and curry....

After settling into the plane, I was upgraded to business class again! As if United Airlienes knew that I was denied having karaage, they gave me a seat so I can watch more movies and snack the entire time. Unlike my outbound flight, I eventually slept on the flight before landing.

An impromptu trip made awesome by United and Conrad.
