Los Angeles

I had a wedding to attend to this weekend and decided to stay closer to the venue since I was part of the bridal party. After running around Friday afternoon for the rehearsal, checked into the Hilton Checkers in Downtown LA. I've always wondered about the hotel as I usually don't have a reason to stay overnight. The hotel itself has a very boutique feel to it with the boutique pricing too! ;) The room was tastely decorated although it did feel a little cramped. I saw this cool audio box thing by the TV, it looked like you could plug in stuff and have it displayed on the flat screen TV. Didn't try but it looked cool. Parking in downtown is always difficult but I wouldn't recommend parking at the hotel, they charge $40/night. Yikes! Street parking is available overnight but you have to be willing to walk a couple of blocks and find a metered space.

I was also able to check out the Kyoto Grand Hotel and Garden since the ceremony was at this hotel. I've hung out in their roof garden in the summers when they host beer gardens but never ventured into the actual hotel. A very nice hotel - the rooms were modern and tastefully decorated, definite asian influence. It was nice that the hotel let us have a room for the day as a changing room, I guess if you spend enough money they can spare it. :p I was told that reviews of the hotel were poor but I don't see any reason for it as my friend had opted to stay at the Miyako Hotel instead.

Since the reception was going to be in San Gabriel at the New Capital Seafood restaurant at 140 West Valley Boulevard, San Gabriel, CA 91776, I decided to stay close by to allow myself the luxury of enjoying the festivities without worrying about driving home afterwards! I checked into the Doubletree Rosemead and headed to the reception. The rooms did remind me of a Hilton Garden Inn but the rest of the facility was nice especially the Doubletree cookies! The Doubletree seems particularly popular with the local hispanic community as they had signs warning guests of a quincenarra that was going to happen that night. Also, the breakfast buffet had a very latin influence with potatoes and chorizo, tamales, etc. All in all, a pleasant experience especially after attending the reception!
