Palm Springs

Headed out to Palm Springs for a quick getaway with friends. In this trip, I stayed at the Hyatt Regency Indian Wells Resort & Spa. Not my usual choice of hotel chain, I do enjoy the Hyatt brand. I wasn't sure what to expect but I was pleasantly surprised of the freshness of the resort. With some resorts, one can never tell if the age starts showing up on the interior furnishings and/or design.

On the way to Palm Springs, we made a pit stop at the Desert Hills Premium Outlets aka Cabazon Outlets to do some retail therapy. I haven't been in years but I know others who regularly shop at this outlet. The construction put a small damper on the shopping experience as it made for a more crowded feel. All in all, not a bad pit stop.

Upon arrival at the Hyatt, I can tell that the hotel was sold out as the self parking was not available. Luckily, the hotel charged self parking rates for the valet service so it worked out in the end. At the time, I couldn't recall if I've ever been to the Palm Desert area but I now realized that it might have been 10 years since I've been in the area. I believe I was at a conference at the time and likely did not leave the hotel much. On this particular trip, we were very mobile.

For dinner, we ventured out to Babes BBQ &Brewhouse. I was not expecting much and was pleasantly surprised of the BBQ quality. In general, I find BBQ in California lacking. It just isn't a BBQ hotspot like the South.

The next day breakfast was at Clementime Gourmet Marketplace and Cafe. I tried the beignets as an appetizer and it was a fail. My jambon & gruyere croissant was good but
the croissant was over toasted. I did buy some macaroons and those were delish. I also got this brownie merengue cupcake concoction and it was tasty as well.

After breakfast, headed back to the hotel and hung out by the pool until it was spa time. The hotel spa is very nice and the facilities were great.

For dinner, headed out to Roy's restaurant. In this visit, I did not get the chocolate soufflé cake but butterscotch and black sesame budino. Not something you see every day and I found the dessert very good. In general, I like the seasonal prix fixe selection at Roy's especially in this visit.

The last day at Palm Springs was uneventful and the drive back was easy. Before getting home, made a lunch stop in Rowland Heights for lunch. Simbala at 18489 Colima Rd, Rowland Heights, CA 91748 is a fairly popular spot and the food was good enough for me.
