Phoenix
I haven't been to Phoenix in awhile. Took a road trip for a quick overnight trip to Phoenix. Headed out early morning and discovered a great Mexican restaurant in Banning, California. Consuelo's Home Style Mexican Food at 1046 E Ramsey Street off the 10 Interstate at the Hargrave Street exit. You wouldn't see it right away but I had a great Chile Verde breakfast burrito. Something to keep in mind if you go to Morongo Casino or Palm Springs.
Checked into the Hampton Inn Phoenix Midtown Downtown Area. I haven't been to this particular Hampton Inn in a few years and they implemented a few new changes since my last visit. There are designated Diamond parking spaces by the front of the hotel, cookies in the afternoon, and the welcome amenity is a choice of snacks. I especially like the power outlet/USB station on the night desk next to the bed. Overall, a very nice stay.
The burrito earlier still was with me and I wasn't interested in having a large lunch since dinner was coming up soon. I opted for a light lunch at the local supermarket, Frys Food. They also sold gas and was the cheapest in town. I had the spicy California roll and found myself liking it a lot. I normally don't like sushi from supermarkets but this one is one of the few exceptions I would make. I only realized after buying gas and food that Frys is part of Kroger which is Ralph's in California. The supermarket is huge rivaling Wal Mart. If I actually worked in the area, I would go in for the sushi.
For dinner, I went to St. Francis restaurant. I did not know it at the time but the restaurant was also featured on Diners Dives & Drive Ins. For some reason, I was still in the mood for chile verde and ordered it with sunny side up eggs. I also ordered the dark & stormy drink which I liked more than the apple cider sidecar. I didn't have room for dessert but took the English toffee pudding cake to go. It also came with sour cream gelato. Overall, I liked the drinks and my meal but I wouldn't order the cake again. At least not to go.....
The next morning, I headed out to Matt's Big Breakfast after checking out of the Hampton Inn. The restaurant must be doing well since they moved to a bigger location on the other side of the block. I ordered the griddle cakes and enjoyed their homemade strawberry jam as my condiment. I couldn't finish it all so I took the leftovers for snacks on the car trip home.
