San Francisco

Went to SF on United Airlines for a quick day trip for work. It seems to be a dog day with the morning flight having a service dog. With the rise of animals being used as emotional support, I wonder what kind of service dog would require a prong collar?

A fairly uneventful trip but I was able to stop off at Mr. Holmes Bakeshop. My stop was made possible from a friend who was also in town and had a car saving me from doing a transfer to the Muni buses from the BART at Civic Center.

After grabbing cruffins, croissants, and monkey bread, we walked over to Jane on Larkin for a quick breakfast. I ordered the club sandwich and it was really good. Even with mustard! The brioche could have been passed.

After, I was on the San Francisco State University campus and enjoyed an iced mocha and crumb doughnut from Cafe 101. Normally not something you would mention but I liked that the University food court was not chains but local independent vendors.

Ran to the San Francisco International Airport at the end of the day and even caught a flight out little earlier than planned. I was able to grab dinner at the Koi Palace takeout in the food court.

Phoenix

Traveled out to the Valley of the Sun aka Phoenix for a college football game. Decided to make it a road trip and headed out late Friday evening. Since I was coming in late, I opted to stay somewhere relatively cheap without any resort amenities. Checked into the Homewood Suites by Hilton Phoenix-Biltmore hotel. The hotel was a little dated but the room was roomy for the group. The breakfast buffet was passable, I opted to have waffles since the buffet had a self serve waffle maker. I'm never a fan of scrambled eggs buffet style, just always too runny or dry... Hopped to the Sheraton Desert Oasis Villas hotel the next day. I wanted to hit the pool killing some time before the game in the evening. I didn't realize that this hotel was a timeshare resort. I would call this hotel a medium tier timeshare hotel and the clients tend to be retirees. At least as evidenced by the people in the pool. Phoenix

I'm capping my spring break by being in Phoenix. Althouth LA is warming up, Phoenix is warmer. It is a quick overnight stay in Phoenix which works out as I'm also sick. :( Got a mustang from Avis, feeling pretty righteous especially since I was originally given an Impala that reeked of smoke. I seem to be hitting a string of sports related events with Vegas and March Madness and now Phoenix and spring training. Caught a game between the Dodgers and White Sox at the spring training complex at Camelback Ranch. It was really cool, very nice facilities similar to the Giants Stadium in SF yet very intimate feeling. I think the stadium could only accommodate about 15,000 people. Definitely NOT Dodger stadium size. ;p Budweiser seems to have been a sponsor as I saw the Clydesdale horses. I remember the first time I've seen these horses and they are super cool looking. Da Nang and Ho Chi Minh, Vietnam and Singapore

For 2025, I wanted to visit Vietnam’s central coast and debated various cities before committing to visit Da Nang. It took me a few months to decide what part of central Vietnam to visit so I didn’t pay attention to the fact that the government would be celebrating Reunification Day in the month I was visiting. For the history buffs, this marks the 50th anniversary of the end of the Vietnam conflict with America. I was using a number of itineraries to make this travel work. The complications came from booking an extra seat for the transpacific flight and using miles and promotions for the shorter legs. My flight path was one short trip to San Francisco International Airport (SFO) and then three seats for a party of two from SFO to Changi Airport (SIN) and then miles from SIN to Da Nang International Airport  (DAD)/Tan Son Nhat International Airport (SGN).
