Park City
Having hit my miles for the year, I opted to use up some points on other carriers. Unfortunately, I did a boo boo on booking and ended up booking two one way on Southwest Airlines and American Airlines. I haven't flown on Southwest in a long time and it was a very full flight to Salt Lake City International Airport. I had forgotten to check in online and was at the end of the boarding process. Luckily, my companion flies Southwest more often and I was able to get on plane without being stuck at the back.
Since I normally don't fly into Southwest terminal, I had forgotten that there is a Popeye's inside the airport. Mental note for the return flight.
Had to wait for check-in time at the Sunrise Lodge. I killed some time with some light shopping at Smith's Food and Drug and munching at Murdock's Cafe & Pizzeria. Checked into a standard room (studio) on the third floor. I don't care much for the top floor as there are only 3 or 4 floors to the buildings. It's also harder to keep the room cooler in the winter. Ironically, the top floors are hotter than the other parts of the hotel. For dinner, I had bought some meat and had to use the outdoor grill by the pool. What I didn't realize is that only the premium studios come with a cooktop. Mental note next time I'm booking.
Overlapped my timeshare stay with the Courtyard Salt Lake City Sandy hotel. A relatively new hotel in the area due to the influx of technology companies in Draper, UT. Conveniently located across from a mall and assortment of restaurants.
Activities
Did a few hours up on Park City and enjoyed using the snowboard and breaking in boots in the new snow season.
Went to Oasis Massage for a massage. I found a coupon inside those advertising booklets at the concierge desk after booking the appointment. It's a Chinese style deep tissue massage and I enjoyed it. If you are a fan of deep tissue, this is the place. Otherwise, choose light and it should do the trick for you. Fairly reasonable in price and the service was pleasant.
Dining
Since I was eating in most of the time, my forays into restaurants were limited. I did enjoy my Moose's Crunch from Murdock's. The Moose's Crunch is a hot cocoa with crumbled twix and caramel sauce on top. The pepperoni pizza is not worth the calories, I suggest going for the sandwiches or salads, it looked good. The service is a bit loose, the cashier forgot to give the pizza immediately and I got a free slice out of the deal. Although I don't know who got ahead on that deal....
It was a slow first day and I was curious about the bar options at the Westgate hotel or Hyatt next door. After looking around their website, I discovered that Grubhub had a few restaurants in Park City. I opted to order from Fuego Bistro & Pizzeria. I enjoyed the Fuego Alfredo pasta (it went well with the tenderloin purchased at Smith's) and the lava cake was good enough. The "focaccia" is really a cheese pizza and it was better than Murdock's but I wouldn't order from either if I had a pizza craving. I was impressed with the speed of delivery since Grubhub said it would take an hour and the food arrived in under 20 minutes. Only later did I discover another advertising book with all the restaurants that offered delivery. Speedy Fernandez needs to get an app. :)
Went down to Draper and had dinner at Brio Tuscan Grille. Apparently, there are two Brios, one is an Italian themed menu and the other is a "California" menu. I liked my spaghetti carbonara. The restaurant reminded me of Canaletto in Newport Beach, CA or Las Vegas, NV.
