San Francisco

Lucky me has a work trip to San Francisco and the only airline that flies in early enough for me to catch the start of the meeting is Southwest Airlines. It was a quick day trip up but SFO is undergoing runway renovations.

So I was 'pleasantly' surprised when my return flight was canceled the day before I was scheduled to fly and I was rebooked to return the next morning. I was fortunate to catch the notification almost immediately since I was looking through my emails and saw the flight cancellation. I was able to get a full refund on the return leg instead of a flight voucher. I did offer to stay the night if they wanted to compensate me for the hotel but the agent didn't bite. The flight cancellation was due to runway construction at SFO and airlines were only catching on that they needed to reduce their schedule.

With limited time left, I was able to find comparable flights on Delta, American and United. So I opted to fly Delta because I am clear on my 1K status with United for the year and I'm a little short on Delta points to redeem for an award ticket.

I think I can honestly say that I've never flown in or out of Terminal 1 or 2 at SFO. What struck me about Terminal 1 was the spacious feeling of the terminal as well as the very modern and large bathrooms. I'll have to remember to look at the Terminal 3 next time but I think it is nicer in Terminal 1. The food options in Terminal 1 is not as varied as Terminal 3. Pros and cons....

On this trip, the AirBart was down so it worked out that I had an extra hour buffer on the flights. I've also never had to walk the entire airport from terminal 3 to 1. I definitely got my steps in.

I was visiting the University of Pennsylvania Wharton Business School San Francisco campus in the Embarcadero area. The campus sits on the sixth floor and they were very thoughtful on the layout. Fairly spacious with lots of warm colors, I can see where the money was spent. The catering is also very tasty. One of the best sugar free chocolate chips I've ever eaten.

After the event ended, I tried to redeem some rewards on my Thanx account but missed Ladle & Leaf by minutes. I continued onto my second stop at La Boulangerie. I was told that the owner reopened his bakeries after the Starbucks venture went south. I found the chocolate caramel cookie delicious and I usually don't enjoy chocolate cookies. The turkey and brie croissant isn't a real croissant but it was still tasty.
