Moab, Utah

On a lark, I opted to head out to Moab for some off roading. Hopped onto a United Airlines flight. Not too many direct flights into Moab outside of Denver so it was my first time since the pandemic flying and with a layover. I was pleasantly surprised to be upgraded to first class, not something I was expecting but I guess the road warriors are no longer flying regularly. If I had to compete with leisure travellers, I should be doing alright. For the flight, the meal option was a snack box. Not too bad since I normally don't enjoy the breakfast options on the flights.

At Denver International Airport, I opted to use my Amex benefit to stay inside the United Club for a few hours. It was a very different experience to walk around with masks and hanging out in the club with no real food. Luckily, I packed some snacks with me and was able to get by. I did find it funny that cup noodles were available BUT it was called Reynoldo's (I think). It was a spanish brand and it was hilarious to me.

Checked into the Springhill Suites Moab. This is the fanciest Springhill Suites I've ever seen. It is clearly the "resort" hotel of the area. I'm assuming it does well with the camping and off roading crowd. The hotel is outside of "town" but close to the Arches National Park.

Dining

Blu Pig - Our group was able to secure the back patio and we enjoyed some southern Utah BBQ on our first night. They were running low on meats (out of baby back ribs and tri tip) so I opted for the two meat plate of brisket and sausage. I also ordered the smoked pecan pie. The sides were normal for any restaurant option. Overall, it was good bbq and the smoked pecan pie was definitely smoked.

Fiesta Mexicana - Located on 202 S Main St, Moab, UT 84532, it is a typical american mexican restaurant. I'm not a huge fan of mexican food and my bias continues. It was a preset menu so I opted for the burrito. I would have tried the fried ice cream or something similar but it wasn't an option for this particular outing. It may have improved my overall perception of the food.....

Moab Spitfire Smokehouse - finished the trip with a 'fancier' bbq restaurant. There was a special for the night - "Dinosaur BBQ Ribs." I think it was oversized beef ribs but these were the most tender beef ribs I've ever tasted. I didn't order this dish but would definitely recommend. The brisket fries were also tasty. I ordered the two meat plate of brisket and sausage. Staying consistent with my first meal, this one was tastier. The dessert was not good. A "s'more" cup was basically marshmallow creme with some graham crumbles. NO chocolate at all. Find somewhere else to eat dessert and stick with the meats.
