Vegas
First trip to Vegas for 2010. I chose to stay at the Las Vegas Hilton from a promotional email they sent. Those things actually work time to time and I was able to snag the $60/night room rate which included a couple of free drinks and breakfast buffets. There were also an assortment of coupons for the various eateries in the hotel but I didn't utilize them.
When we first arrived, we decided to grab a late night snack at the HofBrauhaus. I've actually never went and have seen the restaurant many times while in Vegas. It reminded me of a smaller versin of the Alpine Village in Torrance or Old World in Hungtington Beach. The food seemed ok to me and I don't recommend any of the desserts. I had a very good glass of reisling though!
Afterwards, checked into the hotel. I've come to the conclusion that any room that requires you to go to the "Central Tower" elevators is bound to be a dissappointment. The room was very worn and could use some TLC. It was decently sized and easily accommodated the group. Wandered over to the Hooters Casino after settling in. The hotel had a very old feeling to it, similar to Circus Circus. Not something I would return to in a hurry. After a drink, decided to go back to the Hilton.
The next day was spent at the pool. At this point, I realized that the online pool cabana option is the way to go. From my recollection, the cabana is about $60 for the day online when you first make your hotel reservation. In person, it was $100 - $120. I believe the cabanas come with 20 non-alcholic drinks. As there was a large group, a cabana was justifiable. Unfortunately, all of them were reserved and we were able to enjoy the pool area regardless. :)
Grabbed an early dinner at Grimaldi's. I found this ironic since I was just in NYC a week prior. I was curious if eating here in Vegas would be the same experience as in Brooklyn. In my opinion, I think the Brooklyn location is the best. Unlike my experience in Phoenix, this location served the pizza as it should be and was crispy throughout. I still found it slightly lacking since the pepperoni wasn't quite the same. Despite some food errors, the customer service was excellent and the pizza was very good. I was even able to get a deal! They had a promotion going on where if you bought a gift card for $100 you get a bonus $20. Perfect for this particular outing due to the number of people in the group. Afterwards, wandered over to Nielsen's Frozen Custard and enjoyed my vanilla custard with toffee almonds. The toppings are of generous portions.... ;0
That night, people were interested in seeing a cabaret show and opted to go to the Sin City Bad Girls revue at the Hilton. I had some reservations given my prior experience of Jubilee at Bally's and was pleasantly surprised that it was good. Afterwards, wandered over to Toby Keith's I Love This Bar & Grill in Harrah's. Not a bad place if you're interested in listening to some country music. When the live band isn't playing, they also play some mainstream music as well. Ironically, we bumped into the lead singers from Sin City Bad Girls revue and ended up having a friendly conversation when they recognized us when we walked past them. (After the show, they took pictures with the audience and we were even "interviewed" about the show.) Down to earth, they were fun to hang out with and found out how the show started. The people we met is an actual band that used to play in the Hilton in the early evenings and became so popular that they were asked to do nightly shows with the condition that it was a caberet show. And the rest is history.... Definitely would recommend if you're looking for this kind of show.
